After a research trip I made to see the Terracotta Warrior in Xian, I made a number of studies of various aspects of the Warriors collection. I was attracted to a little know aspect of the collection, which is the dancers and acrobats, designed to entertain Emperor Qin in his afterlife.

My “Twister” sculpture is resonant of a Warrior- Sentinel: an erect figure, pirouetting along its vertical length – ever observant and watchful.

The form of the sculpture is derived from garment tailored patterns: elegant contoured shapes that are a metaphor for human identity, and humanity as an integral part of nature.
